Silom: Three Places to go for Scintillating Nightlife in Bangkok's "Wall Street"

Probably the closest place Bangkok has to New York’s Wall Street, Silom is the region’s home to flashing skyscrapers all bragging the names of multinational corporations and institutions.

Probably the closest place Bangkok has to New York’s Wall Street, Silom is the region’s home to flashing skyscrapers all bragging the names of multinational corporations and institutions. But as the night progresses and the area strips off its suit, Silom dramatically turns into a lively hub where shopping and all other forms of nightlife activities are abundant. If you want to experience the other side of Silom, head on to these spots for the ultimate nightlife activities:

Breaks Bar

Silom’s clubbing scene has thrived more than ever. With the emergence of various pubs and bars, tourists and locals surely have a hard time deciding where to spend their nocturnal energies on. However, up a barely noticeable area known as Soi 2/1, hides an unconventional bar that reeks of defiance to mainstream clubbing. The name is Breaks Bar. Diminutive in size and status, Breaks Bar is designed like an underground warehouse party with 12” records hanging on its walls in lieu of the common club fixtures. Breaks Bar is truly a break from all the usual clubs found in the area. DJs at Breaks Bar play any music ranging from disco, indie, old school hip-hop, electro, roots, techno, or Latin, which all guarantee to have the fresh sound and vibe its crowd raves for. Breaks Bar is open on Wednesdays to Saturdays, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. One has to take the Sala Daeng BTS to reach the club.

Luminous

Living up to its name, Luminous is indeed a gleaming place in the nightlife district of Silom. It was formerly known as Soi 4’s hiphop institution “Speed,” but is still the same multi-floor bar— only with a lot more accessories and fittings designed around the DJ booth and bar. For first-time visitors, Luminous is a great place to hang out. It had been the freshest hip-hop club in the area for years and has maintained its reputation since then. Hip-hop fans will surely enjoy the unique repertoire of songs being played by its cool DJs. The club is especially packed on weekends and has attracted more crowds because of its one-off event, with club personalities such as Dude Sweet, Club Soma, and DJ Nakadia. Their cocktails and drinks come at reasonable prices, so you wouldn’t worry about overspending. Luminous is located at 78/80 of Silom Soi 4, and is open daily from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Soi Patpong

There is more to Bangkok than Silom’s Patpong, but one can never really say he has explored Bangkok without at least taking a peek at the infamous and raunchy district. Patpong consists of two sois: Patpong 1 and 2. It is only minutes away from the BTS Sala Daeng station and is usually isolated by day but flocked with people at nightfall. It is where Thailand’s Go-Go culture is believed to have originated. Because of the many tourists visiting the district out of curiosity, locals have established an enormous night market with souvenirs and other items that literally take up a huge part of the road. Beware of scams.

There are definitely a lot of things to look forward to in Silom as dusk sets in, so better be prepared for what its streets have to offer. Experiencing Thailand has never been this exciting.
